SkyeTec Wins Environmental Protection Board Award for Environmental Achievement
Jacksonville, Fl (04/08/09)-- SkyeTec, a Jacksonville-based building science and environmental consulting firm is in the business of helping people save money. As homeowners face rising energy costs and a weakening economy, the company has taken further action by assisting low-income homeowners lower their energy bills and learn how to conserve resources.
On April 3, SkyeTec received the Jacksonville Environmental Protection Board Award in the Industry Category. The company was chosen based on the efforts taken to “Improve our quality of life by environmental achievement”. SkyeTec’s Green Team members, along with President Ted Nelson, were honored at a luncheon held by Mayor John Peyton. Nelson stated, “SkyeTec is committed in both our business and social practices to promote the benefits of energy efficiency and resource conservation. We are excited to continue our efforts of helping others save money while helping the environment.”
SkyeTec's Green Team, a self organized committee of sustainable-minded employees, is dedicated to making positive contributions toward environmental conservation throughout Northeast Florida. SkyeTec chose to help HabiJax homeowners lower their monthly energy bills by installing energy efficient Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs throughout their new home.
The lights were chosen because of the positive impact they have on a homeowner’s budget as well as the environment; CFL bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer, savings over $30 in electricity costs over each bulb's lifetime.
Through the support of SkyeTec’s employees, the Green Team has been raising funds through various internal events to cover to cost of the light bulbs.
SkyeTec also values the importance of educating the homeowner on the benefits of energy efficiency and environmental conservation. After the team installs the lights throughout the home, they leave a brochure that provides information on the features and advantages of CFLs, as well as other energy efficient products.
The idea of helping others achieve more affordable and efficient homes is not new to SkyeTec – the company already offers ENERGY STAR rating for new homes and a Home Energy Analysis for existing homes.
