SkyeTec was founded in 1999 by long-time business partners and friends, Chris Uhland and Ted Nelson. Previously working as accountants for home health care agencies, they decided to sell their firm to step out in a new direction – air purification. As the health craze began sweeping the nation, Chris and Ted knew Americans were looking for new ways purify their lives, from the water they drink to the air they breathe. Initially focusing their energy on distributing air purification equipment to homes, the partners continued to delve into other ventures as they arose, including mold testing jobs.

After being interviewed by a local news station for a story regarding mold growth in homes, the small business was contracted by companies throughout Northeast Florida to assess mold problems. By 2001, SkyeTec was handling numerous mold claims from around the state, and decided to focus on third party consultation as their area of expertise. With their backgrounds in the healthcare field, Chris and Ted realized the importance of providing preventative measures to ensure that the risk of future problems would be significantly reduced. Out of this thought was born the SkyeTec Certification Program, in which a qualified inspector visits a home multiple times throughout the construction phase of a building to identify any indoor environmental issues before completion. By preventing costly damages, builders, insurers, and homeowners enjoy cost savings and peace of mind.

SkyeTec has experienced exponential growth over the past decade, being named the fastest growing company in Northeast Florida two years in a row by the Business Journal. With over seventy employees and several hundred contractors, the multimillion dollar business shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
