Home Energy Audit
SkyeTec also offers a Home Energy Audit, a detailed room-by-room examination of your home's energy performance. A Home Energy Audit provides you with a HERS index, a score of your home's energy consumption based the results of several tests performed, including a blower door test and a duct test. A HERS index has become increasingly important as energy costs continue to rise and efficiency improvements are at the forefront of our minds.
Legislation has been introduced in Nevada, New Jersey, and New Mexico to require a HERS rating of buildings at the time of sale. Also, a lower interest Energy Efficiency Mortgage loan is approved only with a satisfactory HERS index. Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is through the buying of carbon offsets, which help reduce greenhouse gases. These credits must be sold with a HERS index to prove that the building has demonstrated increased efficiencies.
