Ted Nelson

President & Founder

As President and Founder of SkyeTec, Mr. Nelson facilitated thousands of assessments and expedited the adjusting process during the 2003-2005 hurricane seasons. This experience provided Mr. Nelson with a unique perspective on the challenges insurers face. He has applied that knowledge by working extensively with the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes and the Florida Hurricane Crisis Coalition to solve many of the issues facing property insurers in Florida and Hurricane prone areas. Mr. Nelson has provided subject matter expertise in disaster resistance, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and water loss protocols for clients and colleagues around the world.

In 2006, Mr. Nelson, seeing the need for standardization and oversight, he worked with the Florida legislature to develop the current licensing requirements for the mold assessment, mold remediation and home inspection industry.
In 2007, during the declining home building market, Mr. Nelson foresaw the likely movement toward energy efficiency in home construction and began to prepare SkyeTec to become a leader in the provider of energy consulting and inspection services. Today, SkyeTec is one of the largest new construction home energy rating providers in the country.

Based on success within the energy sector, he established the Weatherization division of SkyeTec, and in 2009 SkyeTec was chosen as the Quality Assurance vendor for the State of Florida’s $175,000,000 weatherization program.
In 2008, while working extensively with the legislature and Florida stakeholders, Mr. Nelson assisted in the development and execution of the My Safe Florida Home Program. Under his leadership, SkyeTec performed in excess of 90,000 home evaluations during a 24 month period in an effort to inform homeowners of their vulnerability to wind damage. Since that time, SkyeTec has performed quality assurance mitigation inspections for several national carrier programs, bringing the total of wind mitigation inspections performed to over 200,000 since 2008.

Also serving as President of Loss Technology Services, Inc., Mr. Nelson helped establish LTS in 2003. Starting with a request to evaluate mold claims for reasonable pricing and scope of work by a national carrier, LTS professionals relied upon their expertise in Industrial Hygiene and indoor environmental quality. Since that time, LTS has built upon that knowledge and added expertise to offer a wide range of mitigation, remediation, building and environmental audit solutions for adjusters, TPAs, insurers, and contractors.

To date, LTS staff member have provided audit services for over 10,000 water mitigation claims. In addition, LTS has provided audit services for mold remediation, asbestos abatement, bio hazard cleanup, and crime scene clean up claims.

Most recently, he has overseen the development of additional tools to the P&C and Flood markets. The newest product/service lines now provide adjusters and insurers the ability to estimate the appropriate cost for mitigation through the use of on-line applications.

Mr. Nelson obtained a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of North Florida. Mr. Nelson currently resides in Jacksonville with his wife, Beth, and enjoys hunting, boating, and spending time with his daughter, Skye.
