SkyeTec Wind Mitigation Certification

A detailed inspection that documents existing wind resistant construction features on your home. Features inspected include:

  • Roof geometry, covering, decking, and construction
  • Opening types and protection (windows, doors, garage doors, skylights
  • Construction type and connections from roof-to-wall and wall-to-foundation

SkyeTec has an established network of qualified inspectors who will call you to schedule your Certification. Each inspector has undergone background checks and work history to insure courteous delivery of professional services. At SkyeTec, we provide ongoing training and education for our inspectors in wind mitigation construction techniques and customer service.

Florida law mandates that property insurance companies offer Windstorm Mitigation Credits for specific wind resistant features that exist on your home. These must be accurately and appropriately documented by a WCE using an approved form.

At the conclusion of your inspection, you will receive a mitigation form completed and signed by the inspector who conducted your wind certification. You may then provide this form to your insurance agent.

You are not required to make repairs, although it is encouraged in order to further protect your home from destructive winds and severe weather.

The inspection report:

  • Outlines improvements to increase resistance to hurricane wind damage
  • Provides an estimate of the cost of completing the improvement
  • Provides an estimate of insurance discounts that may be available
  • Offers a hurricane resistance rating of the home’s current and future ability with improvements, to withstand hurricanes
SkyeTec does not promote or sell any specific retrofit product. Neither does it sell or give your information to any company who does.

If you obtained a free wind mitigation inspection through the My Safe Florida Home program, your application is available for public viewing. However, if you purchased an inspection through SkyeTec, your information is retained confidentially.

Upon your request, SkyeTec will send your insurance form to your insurance company, so you don’t have to worry about doing so. Your inspection report is always sent to you.

SkyeTec Re-Certification

A SkyeTec inspector performs a second detailed wind inspection that documents existing wind resistant construction features on your home, which includes any completed upgrades. SkyeTec does not promote or sell any specific retrofit product. Neither does it sell or give your information to any company who does.

If you have made retrofit hardening improvements to your home, you need the Re-Certification to update your insurance form so you can potentially receive additional Windstorm Mitigation Credits on your premium.

Florida law mandates that property insurance companies offer Windstorm Mitigation Credits for specific wind resistant features that exist on your home. After you have made these improvements, they must be accurately and appropriately documented by a WCE using an approved form.

At the conclusion of your Re-Certification inspection, you will receive a new mitigation form completed and signed by the inspector who conducted your Re-Certification. You may then provide this form to your insurance agent.

As a part of SkyeTec’s ongoing commitment to excellence, you may be randomly selected to receive a Quality Assurance Re-Inspection at no cost. A trained QA inspector verifies the accuracy of the initial wind inspection. If any discrepancies are found, you are provided with an updated form at the conclusion of the QA inspection.
